Grant Application focuses on Creemore STP

Clearview Township will look to the newly launched Build Canada Fund for money to upgrade the Creemore Wastewater Treatment Plant, despite concerns from some on Council that Creemore has been on the receiving end of enough taxpayers' money in recent years.

"Tell me, how do I present this to the public?" was Mayor Ken Ferguson's question for Township treasurer Mitch Carruthers at Monday's meeting, after Carruthers presented a report recommending that Council choose the treatment plant as the target for the municipality's latest grant application. "We're not even done with the shovels on the main street, and here's another million? Politically, this is difficult. There's a feeling among many of my constituents that Creemore has had more than enough."

Carruthers' report offered two other options that Council could choose to apply for instead - one of three bridges that need repair (the Batteau bridge on local Airport Road, the Pretty River bridge on Nottawasaga Concession 10 or the Mowat Street b....read more

Rock and Roll Road Warriors at ACC

The last time Peterborough rockers the Spades rolled into town, it was during a freak March snowstorm that covered the Red Baron, their trusty tour van, in a foot of snow by the time they left the stage.

All in a day's work for James McKenty and his band, who in the past few years have embraced the hardcore work ethic that's long been a part of the rock-and-roll narrative.

"We've always considered ourselves road warriors," said McKenty this week, on the phone from his hometown while taking a quick break from a cross-Canada tour that started in Halifax on October 22 and will end in Vancouver on November 18. Four days after that, on Saturday, November 22, they'll be back onstage at the Avening Hall, hopefully on a night when they won't have to ask the audience to dig them out of the parking lot after the show.

"We're thinking it might finally be time to get some winter tires for the Red Baron, actually," said McKenty with a road-weary laugh.
