Road Deal for Quarry

An agreement reached between the County of Simcoe, Clearview Township and Walker Aggregates that would see major changes to the road network around Duntroon has been met with skepticism from those opposed to Walker's plans to expand its quarry operation in the area.

But Clearview Township Mayor Ken Ferguson is confident the agreement is a good deal.

"The Township will benefit from up to $10.5 million dollars of roads improvements with the Township paying only $1 million," he said in a press release this week. "This is a win-win proposition."

The terms of the deal, made official on February 15 when it was approved at County Council, would see the County transfer responsibility for County Road 91 between Duntroon and the Grey/Simcoe Townline to Clearview Township. Clearview would then close the portion of the road in the vicinity of the Duntroon quarry and transfer ownership of that stretch to Walker Aggregates. History in a Humble House

The Creemore Echo

There's history all around us, but rarely do we get a chance to collectively reflect on it. Tuesday's Log Cabin Tea and History event was one of those rare occasions, providing every one of the 60 or so people present with a reminder of all the years that have passed since the founding of Creemore.

The focus of the afternoon was, of course, the humble, rough-hewn settler's cabin found under a cladding of board-and-batten and Insulbrick at the corner of Mary and George Streets four years ago. But the stories that emerged, from both the presenters and the audience, were about so much more than that.

Presided over by Log Cabin Committee chair Chris Raible and co-sponsored by the Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society, the meeting began with an update on research being done on the origins of the cabin by Barbara Mann and Paul Vorstermans.
